SLIS Proseminar: Julie Leonard, Center for the Book - Artist Books

Thu, 09/18/2014 - 4:30pm - 5:15pm

3092 LIB

Julia Leonard, a creative innovator with artistic range, divides her time between the study of historical bookbinding structures and the creation of contemporary artist books. Her creative projects have been exhibited and collected nationally; they incorporate reference to historical structures, considerations on the visible nature of language, and question how the book form can be used as a means of and inspiration for works that question the role of the book and the book as an object throughout history. Her particular research focus has led her to conceptualize and lead in the creation of, in conjunction with a team of developers, an artist book database, which is currently being populated with information from artist books housed in the University of Iowa Special Collections. She maintains a studio in Iowa City featuring edition production binding, one-of-a-kind and limited edition artist's books.
